Why is my pool pump humming but not spinning?
A pump that hums without turning almost always points to a failed start capacitor or a seized bearing, not a dead motor. We test the capacitor and shaft first, because a capacitor is an inexpensive repair while a full motor swap is not. Many pumps we are called to replace only needed a part.
Should I repair or replace my pool pump?
Repair usually wins for a bad capacitor, a leaking shaft seal or worn bearings. Replacement makes sense once the motor windings have burned out or the wet end has corroded through. When a motor is at the end of its life, we often recommend upgrading to a variable-speed pump, because the energy savings pay back the difference on a pool that runs daily.
Do you repair variable-speed pool pumps?
Yes. We diagnose and repair variable-speed pumps including drive and control-board faults, reprogram schedules that were wiped by a power event, and replace the unit when the electronics are gone. Storm-season power flickers are hard on these boards in the Keys.
