It does not replace brushing. Robots follow patterns that miss tight corners, behind ladders, under steps, around the light niche and the shallow shelf. Those are exactly the places algae starts. Plan on brushing those areas weekly regardless.

It does not balance chemistry. A spotless pool with the wrong chlorine level is still an unsafe pool.

It does not last forever. Expect four to six years from a well-maintained unit. Brushes, tracks and the power cord are wear items. Check that replacement parts are actually available for the model you buy, because some budget units are effectively disposable.

What to look for when buying
